The advent of motorized vehicles have change the way people regard transportation forever. Before automobiles were invented, people had to walk long distances to get to places. Wagons and animal caravans were also a way to travel. When the first cars appeared on the streets, only the rich ones rode them, thus raising the car to the level of the elite.

Today, almost everybody drives his or her own ride, regardless of economic status. Those who have more than enough splurge on models that are produced by high end vehicle companies. Some even save and save for years on end just to be able to acquire the vehicle of their choice. Some opt to go to a used car sales person to help him or her pick out a decent ride. Others have had hand me down cars and vans from parents. Nonetheless, all these vehicles certainly have to be registered via florida DMV.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is a state level government agency. It is the office that administers vehicle registration and driver licensing. The term DMV can vary with every state, yet they operate in the same context of license issuance and renewal.

The agency is very important, especially for identification purposes. The ID card issued by the said agency has become one of the de facto proof to be presented in most transactions. This is most helpful for the public, especially as the country has no national identification card system.

Everything that is related to driving is under the umbrella of the DMV. It administers the written tests and the hands on examinations that someone who wants to have their license must take and successfully pass. It also regulates driving instructors and the private driving schools with which these people are affiliated.

This body is also responsible for providing an identification number for all kinds of vehicles. It gets to decide whether a certain auto should be issued a vehicle registration plate, or simply a temporary tag if there are some infractions. The vehicle registration program is tasked to track detailed information such as odometer history. This is done to prevent car related crimes.

This department is also the one you turn to for the issuance of vehicular titles as proof of legal ownership. Each state has its own set of regulations in registry. It covers most vehicles, excluding the off road types.

In states such as Florida, their department usually gives a period of ten days for a newcomer to register their auto. The ten day grace period begins when you begin working in the state, especially if you are not a native. It also begins counting the day after you register your kids to a school within the state and you would have to drive them off to school every single day.

Renewal of registry is another thing. Different states usually provide varying cycles and expiry dates. All of these depend on the type of automobile that you own. There are some vehicles that need to be renewed every two years, even.
