The American College Testing or ACT, and the SAT, formerly standing for Scholastic Aptitude Test, are two very important exams that could determine a child's academic career, and therefore their entire future. Some people don't take tests very well, even though they are really intelligent. Others just get nervous because they aren't sure what to expect. If either of these is the case or you just want to feel more prepared, consider using an SAT/ACT test prep tool to get prepared.

With the advent of technology, there are currently lots of ways to get in your preparation for one or either of these tests. A very popular way is to take a class as part of a group. You and other future exam takers gather together like a traditional class, but instead of learning reading, writing or arithmetic, you learn test taking skills, pointers and strategies to get a higher score.

If you prefer to get more personal attention or just don't want to take another class with other students, you could hire a private tutor to help you. They will do a lot of the same things the class teachers do, but with an emphasis on the areas that you wish to concentrate the most on.

If tutors and classrooms are not quite right for you, then consider the convenience of an online course instead. This is a set of lessons you get access to on a special website. It may include videos and written lessons, some of which you may be able to print out. The advantages are that you can login anytime from anywhere, so you can schedule the course around your life, instead of the other way around.

While some online services use videos and documents to teach, others use live streaming. This is just like attending class, only in your own home. You get the same lessons and experience, and you have to login at the same time that those taking the class in person must show up. However, you don't have to attend in person, so there is no commuting or traveling involved, which makes it quite convenient.

For many years, people have used books to help them with exam preparation. These thick volumes usually have lots of written lessons, and maybe some quizzes as well. The book should also have lots of simulated tests that you take under timed conditions to get a taste of what the real testing day will be like.

In fact, all of these prep tools give you simulated tests consisting of questions that are very much like what you can expect on the real SAT or ACT. They are graded and you can review what you did wrong and right in order to assess your strengths and areas you need more help on.

Not only should you get lots of simulated testing, but some way to track the improvement in your scores as well. This helps you see how you have improved over time and lets you set a goal to achieve before testing day.
