Are you shipping any merchandise to Australia? Then you must be very familiar with customs regulations in this country.

Shipping invoices should include collection or shipper's address; delivery or shipper's address; description of every item; unit and total shipment value for customs requirements; and, reason for exporting. The last item includes declarations for personal effects, product samples, promotional merchandise, sold products, and returns for repairs.

Customs authorities use value of shipment, reason for export and itemized descriptions to determine the classification of duties and taxes relevant to your package. Items that will be resold are imposed a higher amount of levies compared to effects and gifts. Once your consignment arrives in the port, customs officers will categorize amounts of duties for every product that you have sent. Each one has a tariff classification. You need to research on high-value goods because customs may choose inaccurate categorization and unintentionally apply the incorrect rates. This may cost you more money.

You are not required to pay in the case of temporary merchandise that will leave Australia within the year. This is called "temporary import." Eligible goods may be imported through a carnet which can be secured from the local Chamber of Commerce. However, this quotation is quite expensive. Besides, there are rigid provisions on this category of imports. You will be required to pay the standard taxes in case you fail to inform customs authorities the schedule when these items will leave Australian territory.

These commodities include but are not restricted to clothes, footwear, grooming accessories (does not include perfume), furniture, books, curtains, bicycles, and carpets. Personal possessions that are not eligible for this exemption consist of alcohol, tobacco, motor vehicle parts, commercial products, overseas purchases, and gifts.

Nonetheless, this is only an estimate so hone surveys are more reliable to get hold of a more accurate cost. Look for at least three service providers so you can compare rates and services accordingly. Go for the container company with credible track record and experience.
