Individuals living in Mexico, the United States and other countries are all too familiar with issues related to immigration. As legally immigrating to another country can often take a long time, there are many who try to cross into the United States and other countries illegally. While some are provided Amnesty, this is not often the case. There are also many legal immigrants who are children without homes. As a result, Santa Teresa orphanages are now serving Juarez orphans.

The point of entry in Santa Teresa, New Mexico serves the United States, and Mexico. While, heavily involved in the import and export trade, it also allows for pedestrian and vehicle crossing. As this is the case, it is often faster for drivers to cross the border at this location rather than wait in long lines at El Paso's border crossing.

For those entering the U. S. Legally, Mexican travelers often discover that the point of entry provides more convenient and rapid access than the border crossing in El Paso, Texas. For others, it can still be a dangerous crossing, especially for those attempting to cross illegally. If caught, individuals are generally re-directed back toward Mexico, or held at a local detention center for processing.

Services available include United States and Mexican immigration services, permanent and temporary vehicle exports, commercial and non-commercial traffic inspections, custom brokers and livestock crossings. Most often, the easiest and fastest way to cross the border is by foot whether entering in El Paso, Texas or Santa Teresa.

The crossing is open daily to pedestrian, rented vehicle, private vehicle, commercial and non-commercial traffic. When crossing with a rent-a-car or car share, it is important to inspect the car before reaching the border. Otherwise, if something illegal were to be found that a previous driver or passenger had behind, the current driver and passengers could be found responsible.

The facility is the only port in the area which processes most exported used vehicles for resale in Mexico. Both commercial and non-commercial vehicles can be processed through this port. There are also several hundreds herd of cattle which make this crossing each year. Thus, making this one of the largest import/export facilities for commercial and non-commercial vehicles and livestock along the border.

Aircraft are also inspected for illegal items at the local county airport. As the import and export business is alive and well, border agents inspect commercial and non-commercial airplanes to insure there are no illegal items or passengers on board. These individuals also oversee foreign trade on small non-commercial airlines whether traveling either to or from Mexico.

For U. S. Citizens wishing to adopt an orphan, avoid long lines out of El Paso, or simply visit the area, this small town can provide an alternate route. To reach Mexico, travel on I-10 and take Exit #8, then proceed westward on Aircraft Road. Once arriving in New Mexico, continue straight and travel twelve miles, note that the street will then have changed names to a local highway to reach this port of entry.
