Many music lovers own collections of records and they will use a record player to play them on. Compact discs and mp3 audio are now the preferred formats many turntable parts for are becoming harder to source. When looking to buy record player needles, there are a few places to search where you can find an outlet to supply you with a suitable replacement.

The stylus is a vital part of a record deck as it is the only physical connection between disc and equipment. When a needle is worn out or badly damaged it will have to be changed to produce quality sound and to protect the record surface. There are many needles that are available and it is important to use a good supplier to sell you a compatible one.

A good place to visit when you need a stylus is a specialist audio retailer that can be found on many high streets. These shops will have expert staff that will be able to help you find what you are looking for and advise you on your purchases. If the retailer is unable to find you a suitable match, they can usually order one from their suppliers.

Internet retailers are another great place to look at and there are a large number of web based suppliers to choose from. Before placing an online order, you should make a note of the serial number or manufacturer of your needle which makes it easier to search their stock. Buying online may also be more cost effective as a web retailer will usually have lower prices than store based retailers.

If a high street dealer or web based retailer cannot help, it is useful to have a look at an internet auction site. Many of these auctions will have needles listed with a picture and description and you can bid on an item or make an offer. If you are not certain about an item, you can contact the seller directly and ask for more details, before you bid.

You can also try contacting the manufacturers who make your needle and a large number of them can supply you with a stylus. If your model of turntable is no longer being made, they may still have some an old stock of needles. If they cannot find your stylus, they may be able to recommend one of their authorized retailers, where you may find one.

If you own a really old record player, you may not be able to find a suitable stylus, and there are a couple of things that you can do. Visiting second hand shops can sometimes be useful as many of them will sell old audio equipment. Another option is to contact an electrical engineer and get them to adapt your turntable to take a more modern stylus.

A stylus very fragile and it needs to be cared for properly to avoid accidental damage. Unless you are fitting it immediately, the stylus should be stored safely until it is required. Retain all purchase invoices which are needed if you exchange or return an unwanted item.
