Once you are a senior in high school, you have to begin thinking about the path you want your work career to take. The decisions you make now may impact your life for many years. Sometimes young people are offered positions conditionally, pending completion of their education. One of the best things you can do to increase your chances of getting hired after you graduate is to become an intern while you are still in college. It's a good idea to start networking even before you graduate. Your business school professors are a good source of information and career tips. It always helps to be able to add certifications and licenses to your resume. Potential employers will notice and appreciate the added training you have gotten. They may also be impressed by your determination to succeed. Specialized training could also increase the salary offer you get. You will have to get some experience before you can enter certain certification programs.

Finding the time to get continuing education while working full time can be very difficult. It is possible to take the necessary courses online however. The American Purchasing Society and the Department of Labor both have information on their sites about various certification programs. You might choose courses they offer for strengthening management skills or improving negotiating techniques.

Keeping up with the latest technology and state and federal regulations is important if you want to advance in your career. A lot of corporations offer employees workshops and seminars where speakers discuss new trends and software. Many companies are also willing to pay their staff to take off site classes when appropriate.

You can create a successful career for yourself with determination and persistence. Making plans early will help. If you are smart and build on your strengths, you will go far.
