Lumbering is a common practice which is widely done in many parts of the world. This has become a source of income for a considerable population. Even so, there are quite a lot of risks that come along with the harvesting of trees. Detailed from below are important aspects of managing the risks in timber harvesting PA to consider.

Controlling menaces which might occur through hazardous trees. Trees which have grown weak due to various aspects are considered to be hazardous. Such aspects include heavy storms, old age and fire outbreaks. There are possibilities of having the trees fall in the wrong direction or having hang-up branches falling on the assistants. For that reason, a critical examination of these possibilities should be taken to ensure the safety of the harvesters.

Cutting trees using the manual procedure is preferred. The manual tree cutting procedure usually requires the use of chainsaws. This type of tasks requires many people to assist in different activities. Workers helping in leaning the tree towards the opposite direction of the feller are always in jeopardy. Such peril can be avoided if a critical assessment was made to determine the ground elevation, possibility of wind and choosing a ground with less surrounding vegetation.

Consider the possibilities in thinning process. Thinning process involves removal of small trees for fencing poles and maintaining favorable standing conditions for plants with the capacity to grow much better. This process requires the feller to be careful with hanging branches and should seek assistance when the tree hangs on other branches. Make sure that the assistants are aware of the falling direction to avoid hurting them.

Possibilities in harvesting with machines. Modern lumbering has seen the invention of machines which can cut down trees or assist in leaning and logging as well. Such machines need to be handled very carefully since they can fall the tree towards the direction of the cutter. Therefore, the harvester or expert handling them should effectively communicate with the other people involved to ensure that they are safe before and when cutting the tee.

Conservation of wildlife and biodiversity. Birds, insects, rodents, and other small animals depend on trees for their breeding and eating as well. Therefore, cutting down trees can lead to the destruction of their habitat. A reliable harvester is supposed to acknowledge the breeding season of these birds. Also, the harvester should leave tree stems which are tall enough to conceal rodents and small animals from their predators when they are feeding.

How to reestablish the harvest site. Harvesting trees usually leave the most of the forest damaged. Failure to take necessary measures can lead to risks such as soil erosion. These risks can be avoided if the harvester restores the roads they have created for transportation, remove any constructions made and make a point of planting other trees on the spot.

Most forests that have this kind of operations are under the protection of the forestry department. Therefore, any lumbering operations should be done with their authorization to ensure that every risk management measure is considered. Failure to comply with this can lead to prosecution due to illegal lumbering.
