Cooking on the grill can be fun but not a reality for all home cooks. There are certain times of the year when the weather does not permit for outdoor cooking and there are some who do not know how to use a barbeque grill or smoker. In these cases, indoor cooking will suffice as long as food has flavor. Whether a person cooks poultry outside or inside, they may want to consider using chicken seasoning rub.

Using a rub eliminates the many steps of seasoning as everything has already been measured. Although most rubs contain the essential seasonings, there are special blends influenced by worldwide cuisine. These range from the Caribbean, which is known for sweet heat, to intense Latin influenced spices.

There are also rub seasoning blends that are influenced by different parts of the world. Anyone can create their own jerk chicken without leaving their home, or try the sweet and savory flavors associated with the Orient. For many food enthusiasts, this is a lot better than just adding a bottled sauce, as they want to taste flavor throughout.

While some users like to slather this all over their meat before marinating for a few hours, just a few shakes will do if a hint of flavor is desired. If a person is watching their sodium intake, there are some products on the market, as well as recipes that require little to no salt. Oftentimes, when fresh herbs are used, few people miss the extra salt or sugar.

Those who use a dry rub rarely go back to using a liquid marinade because the application is so simple. Whereas most marinades are the most intense when injected into raw flesh and left to sit overnight. While this is great for the person who grills as a hobby, those who cook out of necessity may not have the patience or skills to take these extra steps.

Wet or dry rubs can also seal in moisture, even after the meat has been cooking over medium or medium high heat. This is especially a common problem for those who cook on an outdoor grill. Adding a rub beforehand can be a nice alternative to applying sauce, which can be overpowering at times.

Some people go the extra mile when cooking a turkey. Unless it is processed to contain extra oil underneath the skin, this is the poultry most likely to become dry during cooking. Not long ago, a grill master found that the turkey can remain moist by adding a tablespoon of virgin olive oil to the rub before applying.

While most dry rubs are loaded with flavor, it is best to choose wisely. There are some people who use these, instead of barbecue sauce, to flavor meat. If a person has dietary restrictions, they should look for a product that is low in sodium or sugar. Sometimes creating a wet rub with a little water or oil makes the perfect overnight marinade. Although this may take a little practice, a person gets the taste without the guilt.

Whatever the occasion, anyone who wants to do something different with their bird should give these a try. Because buying a rub seasoning costs less than buying certain spices individually, some people like to experiment with flavors and different types of meat. In little time, they may find themselves creating a restaurant quality dish.
