When soldiers go off to war, they are not thinking much about what they will do when they return. They are probably thinking of where they are going and how much they are going to miss their loved ones like a wife or children while they are gone. Planning for the future seems so far away. Vocational training for veterans can help those who need to get some skills for employment.

You may the person who did the fighting or you may be someone as a family member looking for a job program that trains the former soldier to do a skill. They may be disabled at this point and have limited physical capacities. The job that they did while they were in the military is no longer feasible for them to do because of an injury during combat, for example.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a diagnosis for someone who has endured a lot of severe hardship and seen a lot of gruesome things and is now overwhelmed and troubled because of those memories. They may not sleep at night or they may have nightmares when they do sleep. They may have a lot of anxiety, too.

If they went to a country which was at war at the time, they may have seen the natives of that land under a lot of duress. They may have had to rescue children or women who have been raped or brutally attacked. It may have been very unpleasant and feelings from those experiences will still be raw when they return.

They will need to maintain a good relationship with a counselor and a doctor to manage these symptoms. Support groups may also be a good idea. Other former soldiers will be available to provide support because they are going through a similar issue. Healing will need to come before the idea of working a job is considered.

It would be wonderful if they have family to help when they return. It is always good to have family when you need them in a time of need. You may also have some friends that can be supportive if you are recovering from various things that you went through while in the military.

You may not be ready to work when you get home, but if you are, you will do great in your new calling. You may do the job that you had while you were in the service or you may do an entirely new one. Look into all of the options for job training. You could learn a technical trade or consider going to college and getting a bachelor or doctorate degree.

Process your feelings as best as you can. When you are not in with your counselor, write down your feelings and thoughts as you process them. You have been through a lot so be patient during this difficult time. You should be proud of yourself. You have done a good thing. You will look back on this time with gratitude that you got through it and helped others in the process.
