There are often accidents and bumps while playing school sporting events. States often have rules that require students to wear sports mouthguards. Several types can be selected depending on what the student needs. Regardless of the type chosen, the device should fit well, be comfortable, and be cleaned regularly. Neither speech nor breathing should be restricted when wearing them in sporting events.

The device should fit without being uncomfortable. They come in many different sizes, so you should take the time to get the size that fits your mouth and jaw shape the best. If they're too big or too small they can be restrictive or painful after time. Those that are too small could easily fall out while you're on the field.

The stock guard is the most basic. It is not designed to be a perfect fit. There are different sizes and most stores can help you figure out the size you will need. It is important to have one that forms close to the shape of your jaw in order for it to fit over the teeth properly. If it is too big or small it won't provide the best protection.

The boil and bit type are made to form to your teeth. This is probably the most popular because it is not too expensive but forms well. When you boil it and let it begin to cool, you put it in your mouth and bite hard to get it to form to your teeth. Be sure to position it correctly so the form will make the best fit. These will stay in place when you wear them.

Custom guards can be made by a dentist. These are usually for students that have braces or some other fixed dental device in their mouth. They often create a second one to protect the lower teeth from damage as well. They're more expensive but provide the best fit and protection of the three types. They are specially made based on a mold of your teeth. They will also be the most comfortable.

Be sure to remove retainers and other non-fixed dental equipment before wearing the guards. Keeping things like this in your mouth will make the guard not fit well and could easily break the dental implement. It is best to consult your dentist if you have any type of dental implement before choosing a mouthguard and playing sports.

Cleaning and caring for them properly is crucial. Keep them away from pets so they don't get destroyed. Wash them every day by using a toothbrush in the same way you would brush your teeth. This will keep bacteria from forming. Store them in the container provided or in a cool dry place that is never in direct sunlight.

Having fun with sports is something that is common for students and adults worldwide. It's important to have the best protective equipment in order to have fun safely. The right type of mouth protection will help reduce risks for broken teeth and other injuries that could happen to the mouth during play.
